The most amazing part of Iannelli's story is where he wrote,

     "But Llanes says that despite Marana's warning, "nobody called

     the chief" and told him the evidence inside the locker room had

     been compromised.

     "Nobody rang the alarm that this was an emergency," Llanes claimed.

     "Or that the scope of this problem was as big as it was. Internally,

     there's a difference between this being a routine maintenance issue,

     and a homicide lieutenant saying, "Hey, we got a problem here."

HOW BIG A LIE IS THIS? HERE IS THE JUSTIFICATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW SHIPPING CONTAINER ON THE PURCHASE REQUEST SENT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO THE CITY'S PROCUREMENT DEPARTMENT ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2012.

This morning, Jerry Iannelli of Miami New Times, wrote a story about homicide evidence destroyed, and the role of Miami's Police Chief in this fiasco.

In his story, Iannelli revealed that he managed to reach the Chief on his cell phone where he "confirmed that Crespo's documents were accurate," and then the Chief went on in twists and turns trying to deny that just because he had written/received or was aware of the documents that I published - and I've been told, and have no reason to doubt that in fact there were dozens more emails from staff expressing concern about the condition of the shipping container and the evidence housed in it - this should not mean or imply that as Chief he knew, suspected, presumed, questioned, speculated or even wondered if maybe because the container had holes big enough that rats, possums and raccoons could get inside the container then maybe the evidence inside might have been compromised.

It is all beyond belief!  

The article went on to state that, "Llanes claims the department did not actually examine any evidence inside the locker until this September."

Imagine that?  The Chief knew from 2012 about this problem, and yet here he is claiming that it took from the July 25, 2012 unannounced inspection of the Property Room to September 22, 2016 before he found out that evidence had been destroyed because no one until then had bothered to go inside to see what was happening to the evidence as a result of the deteriorating condition of the container.

First, what does this say about the competence and professionalism of the Chief and his top command staff?

Secondly, the Chief's claim is inaccurate. Below are photographs that were taken inside the container in 2015, showing the condition of the inside of the Homicide container.

These photographs, which were part of my Monday story were attached to an email that states, "I am requesting the replacement of the connex asap as the evidence is compromised due to weather, rot, and wildlife (rats, raccoons, possums.)  

NOTE: The Red Arrows are mine and point to the holes in the bottom of the container that had rotted out.

HERE IS THE SAME EXACT LANGUAGE IN THE PURCHASE REQUEST SUBMITTED BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO THE CITY'S PURCHASING DEPARTMENT ON JUNE 22, 2015.

A REASONABLE PERSON WOULD HAVE TO CONCLUDE THAT IN ORDER FOR THIS CLAIM THAT EVIDENCE WAS BECOMING DAMAGED OR DESTROYED MEANS THAT CONTRARY TO THE CHIEF'S CLAIM, SOMEONE DID GO IN THE CONTAINER, AND IN FACT, COPS FROM THE PROPERTY ROOM AND HOMICIDE DETECTIVES DID GO IN THE CONTAINER ALL THE TIME.

THE CONDITION OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO THE EVIDENCE WAS NOT SOME DEEP DARK SECRET BEING KEPT FROM THE CHIEF. A REAL PUBLIC RECORDS SEARCH WILL ESTABLISH THAT THE DOCUMENTS THAT I PUBLISHED MONDAY WERE BUT THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG WHEN IT CAME TO COPS UP AND DOWN THE COMMAND CHAIN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE EVIDENCE INSIDE THIS SHIPPING CONTAINER.

ADDITIONALLY, IF THIS LANGUAGE, WRITTEN TWICE OVER A 4 YEAR PERIOD OF TIME THAT EXPLICITY STATES: "CAUSING STORED EVIDENCE/PROPERTY TO BECOME DAMAGED OR DESTROYED," DOES NOT CONSTITUTE 'AN ALARM," THEN WHAT THE FUCK DOES?

WHAT'S WORSE?

A CHIEF OF POLICE WHO IS A LIAR TRYING TO COVER HIS ASS, OR A CHIEF OF POLICE WHO IS AN INCOMPETENT MORON MANAGING A DEPARTMENT LACKING IN THE KINDS OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND PRACTICES THAT IS EVIDENCED BY HIS CLAIM THAT NO ONE IN THE DEPARTMENT, "CALLED THE CHIEF?"

EITHER OR, THE CITIZENS OF MIAMI DESERVE BETTER, AND THERE IS NO WAY THAT RUDY LLANES DESERVES TO CONTINUE BEING MIAMI'S CHIEF OF POLICE!
